The programs are divided into specific categories, including some dealing with class A CDL licensing, while some are focused on class B licenses. Candidates may also choose between short-term and long-term programs, with the shortest containing 160 hours of training and the longest being 320 hours.

Kenai Peninsula Driving Instruction is the only commercial training school capable of issuing commercial learner's permits and licenses. Students of the class D program can expect to participate in 16 hours of training comprising 8 hours of classroom instructions and 8 hours of hands-on sessions.

As expected, students will first be introduced to the fundamental concepts of truck driving in the classroom before finally working with actual trucks. In this part of the training, candidates will carry out hands-on maintenance, off-road maneuvers, and on-road driving, among other things.

The program can be completed in 4 weeks, after which candidates will be ready for their state examination. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years old.
