Sterile Processing Technician Schools in Charleston

Students will receive a foundational introduction to sterile processing and surgical technology. They will become familiar with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, prescription interpretation, microbiology, and infection protection.

It is also worth noting that candidates in this program may be eligible for financial aid, including federal grants and work-study. The certification in sight is the HSPA Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential.

Once accepted, they will begin 190 hours of coursework focused on technical proficiency and certification preparation. Although most coursework focuses on online training, candidates may also apply for an optional internship for real-world experience.

The curriculum covers anatomy and physiology, the nervous system, infection control, instrumentation preparation and packaging, tray assembly, and sterile storage. Although there is no prerequisite to enter the program, candidates must have a high school diploma or a GED to sit for the certification exam.

They will also complete 400 hours of clinical experience as they prepare for national certification.

The skill set pathway contains only 15 credit hours of instruction. However, it is sufficient to help candidates understand the profession's foundational principles, including manual cleaning, sterilizer monitoring, and more.

Accredited by CAAHEP, the program is taught by qualified instructors using an industry-standard curriculum. They develop technical expertise and are ready to participate in credentialing examinations.

To be admitted to this program, applicants must provide proof of a high school diploma or a GED. They may also be required to provide proof of vaccination and complete a background check.

The tuition structure is divided by student category: High School students are charged $50 per credit hour. For residents, the cost per credit hour ranges from $188 to $260; non-residents pay a higher rate of $376 to $401 per credit hour.
