Accepted applicants will receive training to develop technical skills and earn the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential from the HSPA. They will be able to do all of this in less than 12 months.

The program is notable for helping candidates understand compliance requirements for documentation and record maintenance. Participants also developed effective communication, interpersonal skills, and personal development skills.

Other areas of focus include medical terminology, surgical terminology, diagnostic procedures, introduction to low-temperature sterilization, and sterile storage.

To be accepted into this program, individuals must be Massachusetts residents and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum age of 18 is also required.

Areas of focus range from case cart introduction and inventory management to ancillary department support, tray assembly, disinfection process, complex instrumentation, standards and regulations, and workplace safety.

Candidates can enroll at any time under the open enrollment policy and can complete their training at any time within the 12-month access period.

To develop technical proficiency, participants learn to identify instrumentation, manage inventory, ensure workplace safety, understand the components of career success, and more. For their certification examination, candidates receive a voucher.

Theoretical classes are paired with laboratory participation and clinical practicum experience. Upon program completion, graduates will be able to apply decontamination principles and techniques to ensure the safe use of medical devices.

They will also have the skills to inspect, pack, wrap, and assemble medical devices for sterilization. Candidates are prepared for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association credential.
