Sterile Processing Technician Schools in New Orleans

Graduates can work in diagnostic centers, surgical centers, hospitals, and clinics, physicians' offices, and more. As noted on the program website, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent to be admitted.

Once they begin their education, they will be introduced to technical concepts such as inventory management, tool and equipment identification, instrument sterilization, packaging, and stocking, among others.

Accepted applicants who complete their coursework successfully will earn a certificate of technical studies. They will also be ready for the certification examination offered by the HSPA and other prominent credentialing bodies.

Areas of focus include low-temperature sterilization, instrument identification, ancillary department support, sterile storage, complex instrumentation, workplace safety, regulations and standards, and disinfection process.

They will be able to learn using standard textbooks, pre-recorded materials, and other resources. Those who require guidance will also have the opportunity to consult the program supervisors, who are experienced professionals themselves.

While candidates may be admitted without a high school diploma or GED, they will need one for certification. The certification in focus here is the CRCST credential from the HSPA.

Students complete 20 credit hours of instruction to earn a certificate of technical studies. They will then qualify for the HSPA credentialing exam.

Participants don't just learn in the classroom; they also learn in the laboratory. The program is housed on the Jennings Instructional Site, which has clinical sites across Southwest Louisiana.

Individuals who would like to learn at their own pace, in the comfort of their homes, will be particularly drawn to this program. They must complete 190 course hours within 12 months.

They will also receive a voucher to take the credentialing exam through the HSPA.
