Sterile Processing Technician Schools in Indianapolis

The curriculum is very standard and covers everything participants need for employment and certification. Of course, there are a few requirements individuals must meet to enter this program.

Among them are a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum age of 18, physical stamina, passing a criminal background check, and proper vaccination.

Candidates can choose between regular classes and evening classes.

The curriculum covers technical topics such as sterilization techniques, recordkeeping and maintenance, sterile storage, surgical terminology, and medical terminology. Students will also develop transferable skills, including effective communication, customer service, and critical thinking.

Wayne Township Adult Education’s Sterile Processing Technician program is offered in conjunction with Vincennes University.

Candidates looking to focus on the sterile processing technician pathway must choose the short-term central service technician certificate track. Here, they will develop technical expertise, prepare for certification, and even have the opportunity to continue their education through the surgical technology training program.

Participants must complete 21 credit hours of coursework over two semesters to graduate.

As noted on the program website, a key objective is to ensure graduates can perform their duties and understand effective communication, human relations, and personal development, as these impact the career of a sterile processing technician.

After completing 190 hours of instruction, students will be prepared to secure employment and pass the certification examination. They will also be able to apply for possible real-world training through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

Specific areas covered in the curriculum include medical terminology, lymphatic and immune systems, diagnostic procedures, standards and regulations, and workplace safety.
