Pharmacy Technician Schools in Portland

Those who successfully complete the courses here will qualify for the nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification examination and meet state licensing requirements. In total, students receive 300 hours of training over 14 to 16 weeks.

Graduates can go on to work in hospitals, retail pharmacies, online fulfillment centers, and more. Southern Maine Community College also offers continuing education programs for pharmacy technicians.

Students will have access to the course materials for 12 months, but given the self-guided format, they can complete their training at their own pace. In total, participants consume 400 course hours of instruction through several course materials and training resources.

Students also benefit from flexible payment plans and the opportunity to prepare for the PTCB certification exam. The program covers regulations, communication skills, medication processing, handling procedures, and more.

Applicants must be Maine residents with a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old. The program is comprehensive, covering medication calculations, drug classifications, drug actions, pharmacy inventory protocols, and adverse drug reactions, among other topics.

Accepted applicants may also participate in an in-person training session.

Students learn using an array of materials, from quizzes and textbooks to videos and interactive sessions. Participants learn pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy software, regulations, and more.

For hands-on proficiency, the school offers career coaching and an in-person internship. The syllabus covers pharmacy law and ethics, inventory management, pharmacology, prescription processing, and more.

Candidates study for around 15 weeks, learning classroom topics. After the 15th week of training, they will begin clinical training in a pharmacy setting, applying the skills they have learned online in a work environment.
