The school also offers a unique “Certificate to Degree” fast-track program, an alternative through which candidates can secure enrollment in an Associate of Applied Science degree program in Health Information Systems. This program is conducted entirely online, with no campus visits required.

After completing their education, students in this program will also be eligible to take the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam by AAPC, or explore CCA/CCS credentials from AHIMA. The curriculum includes CPT coding, HCPCS coding, ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and more.

Students with prior healthcare experience may be eligible for "credit for experience" or "credit by exam," which could potentially reduce the time required to complete the certificate. Additionally, the Ohio Department of Higher Education has awarded Rhodes State College the Choose Ohio First (COF) Scholarship grant, which provides scholarships to students in STEM fields, including medical billing and coding.

The curriculum focuses on essential skills, including the application of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, understanding medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, managing electronic health records, and processing insurance claims and reimbursement practices.

There are no prerequisites to enroll.

The curriculum encompasses all major focus areas one would expect, including respiratory, digestive, nervous, and endocrine systems, as well as revenue cycle management, health insurance, clinical documentation, Medicare, and certification.

Candidates may choose to develop valuable experience through the Externship Starter Kit. They will also have the opportunity to practice and work with actual medical billing and coding software before graduation.
