The standalone option also allows those who prefer to focus on medical billing alone to do so. Finally, graduates can take advantage of the externship program to secure a position with an actual medical establishment and gain some work experience.

Participants will not only develop technical skills but also gain valuable experience. Still, they will also participate in a series of exercises designed to help them develop professional traits, including customer service, attention to detail, and effective communication.

The program takes place online, but candidates can participate in hands-on assignments and utilize actual tools and software. Classes include medical terminology, coding standards, legal and ethical considerations, and other relevant topics.

Students have 12 months to complete their education, after which they will be eligible to take the Certified Professional Biller examination offered by the AAPC.

Students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, possess basic keyboarding skills, be familiar with word processing software, and demonstrate strong proficiency in English grammar and punctuation.

Students will learn to interpret medical records, apply coding guidelines, and ensure compliance with insurance and billing regulations to ensure accurate and timely billing. The program also prepares students for national certification exams, such as the Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Biller offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
