Students who get in will be taught about the fundamentals of medical assisting while also learning about medical terminologies. Before they complete their training, they will understand how to carry out basic tasks like measuring vital signs, preparing examination sites, talking to patients, and scheduling appointments, among other administrative duties.

Notably, students of this program will also have access to financial assistance through the Vermont Student Assistant Corporation, among other grants.

Tuition includes all course materials, such as textbooks, and access to online learning resources. The curriculum covers essential topics, including patient care, EKG technology, phlebotomy, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks.

Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association's (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam.

Although the program itself leads to a certificate, students who complete their credits can apply them to the Associate Degree program in Health Science. The state of Vermont requires students of allied health programs to provide immunization documents, so applicants must be prepared for this process.

Among 27 to 32 total credits, required courses include Introduction to phlebotomy, Administrative Medical Assisting, Clinical Medical Assisting Internship, and Fundamentals of Pharmacology. There are also causes dedicated to preparing students for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant examination for professional certification.

Organized as an apprenticeship program, the hospital offers openings for 20 participants every 6 months. For those who would like to combine the apprenticeship with academic training, there is also a pathway to contribute 15 college credits towards a certificate or an associate degree program.

Notably, candidates can also qualify for a scholarship that includes full tuition for four successful applicants. For convenience, the program includes an online aspect for classroom education.
