In a certificate program, students will enjoy strong connections with local dental practices and be able to secure straightforward employment after graduation. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Dental Assistant, Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA), and Dental Office Administrator.

As expected, the program prepares students to sit for the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) exam, administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Graduates are also eligible for state-specific certifications, such as the Indiana Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) certification.

Admission Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, possible CPR certification, and a background check and drug screen.

Applicants may also choose the long-term/technical certificate program, which can contain 43 credit hours and take 3 to 4 semesters to complete. The associate degree program, which contains 64 credit hours, takes 4 to 5 semesters to complete.

Key topics covered include dental anatomy and terminology, chairside assisting techniques, dental radiography (X-rays), infection control and sterilization, dental materials and lab procedures, patient care and communication, and more.

The school also offers several pathways, including an associate degree program in dental assisting and a certificate program. To gain admission into this program, candidates are expected to complete an admissions form and submit it by email.

Before graduating successfully, students should be prepared to learn in the classroom and laboratory and complete a 300-hour clinical externship. The admissions application form can be completed and submitted online.

The program contains 102 course hours of instruction, covering topics such as X-rays, diagnostics, dental anesthesia, asepsis and sterility, the oral cavity, and related structures.
