Those who get accepted will gain skills in blueprint trading, structural unit repair, installation, and estimation, among other things. The program allows candidates to choose between an associate of applied science track containing 60 to 62 hours of instruction, a career certificate track with 30 course hours, and a technical certificate track with 45 course hours.

Participants will receive extensive preparation for entry-level employment and will be able to develop skills in the installation and repair of structural units and blueprint reading.

The first-year curriculum covers blueprint reading, tools and equipment, and safety principles, while the second-year curriculum includes instructions on installing, repairing, and maintaining structural units.

Graduates will also receive NCCER certification along with other credentials that will help them stand out.

The program also allows candidates to contribute their course hours for college credits. Other focus areas in the curriculum include site selection, site preparation, blueprint reading, floor and wall framing, construction mathematics, and both interior and exterior finishing.

The foundational year introduces students to various construction trades, emphasizing safety, tool usage, and basic construction principles. The curriculum is developed in partnership with the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF) and aligns with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standards.

Instruction combines online and face-to-face learning, utilizing NCCER Connect e-books, video presentations, quizzes, and interactive content.

Students in the second year focus on carpentry-specific skills, including framing, roofing, and finishing techniques. The coursework is designed to meet NCCER certification standards, preparing students for potential certification and entry into the workforce or postsecondary carpentry programs.
