Aircraft Mechanic Schools in Detroit

With more than 700 undergraduate students, the school remains one of the top 3 largest aviation schools in the nation. Aspiring aircraft mechanics may enroll in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program, where they'll receive all the training they’ll need to have to pass the FAA certification tests.

The school has already produced numerous successful aircraft mechanics. Coursework to look forward to includes aircraft drawings, basic electricity, aircraft systems and components, engine inspection, and maintenance, among others.

The program prepares students for entry-level positions in aircraft maintenance through rigorous hands-on training in around 40 precision technical skills, including gear systems and operation, hydraulics and pneumatics, composite structure fabrication, and sheet metal fabrication, among others.

Students have two options - the Airframe and Powerplant Technician certificate program that lasts for 20 months or the Associate in applied science Aviation Maintenance Technology program that lasts for 24 months.

Approved by the FAA in 1975, the program moved to Mason-Jewett Airport in Mason, Michigan, in 2013. Students who wish to enroll are expected to take part in placement testing and orientation before classes start.

As for the degrees and certificates, students have a handful of options. The first is the associate's degree in Airframe and Powerplant, while the second is the certificates of completion and accomplishment in general Airframe and Powerplant.

The school does provide referral services.

Thankfully, the school also runs an aviation mechanic program for those looking to attain airframe and powerplant ratings from the FAA. The course is divided into the Airframe, General & Powerplant training, and the Designated Mechanic Examiner training program.

Along with aviation maintenance, the school also focuses on aviation flight, training for flight instructors and mission pilots.
