Licensure and Certification Requirements

Even though we’re talking about getting certified as an aircraft mechanic in Michigan, the only prominent body you will have to deal with in this regard is the FAA.

The FAA provides an opportunity for aircraft mechanics to get certified by pursuing the Airframe & Powerplant certification ratings, also known as the A&P certificate.

Of course, before you can become A&P certified, you must have completed a civilian or military training program as highlighted above. Once you’re done with the education aspect, you will have to take three separate tests administered by the FAA.

The first is the knowledge test, which involves taking a written exam. The second is the oral test, followed by the practical tests administered by a designated mechanic examiner.

Salary and Job Outlook

Aircraft mechanics in Michigan earn an annual salary of around $71,740. This, of course, is an average figure for all professionals in the state. Starting out, an aircraft mechanic may earn a little less, often as low as $51,266 but rarely lower.

At the higher end of the spectrum, with more experience and specialization, an aircraft mechanic in Michigan can look forward to earning as high as $100,390 every year.
